Fun fact: I can’t spell absence right until I make at least three attempts.
Hello! It’s been a minute since I last wrote, and I feel like I should explain, and give you a proper rundown of my plans for the future of this blog.
The last time I posted was on Christmas day, and it was a post I honestly cannot remember writing. To be perfectly honest, I don’t remember most of December. It’s all a bit of a depressed blur of working and pretending to enjoy holiday festivities. I say depressed because the last couple of months of 2017 were some of the quickest and hardest of my life; I had no desire to write or do anything creative, was forcing myself to do literally everything, despite having no desire to and was dealing with some feelings I had been trying to avoid.
In December 2016, my dad died very suddenly, and it wasn’t until around late November 2017 that I actually started to allow myself to mourn. I was feeling a tumultuous mix of emotions (a really gnarly mix of regret, guilt, and despair, with just a hint of apathy) that I had been avoiding and pushing down. These emotions came rushing to the surface very quickly due to a stressful occupation. I really appreciate you sticking around and reading this portion because it was incredibly hard for me to admit to these feelings in such a public way, but it also feels like a huge weight has been lifted off of me. I wanted to explain why I hadn’t written, and that’s the gist of it. I’m doing quite a bit better, but it took some really bad days to start appreciating the good ones.
Now then, here is what I’ve got planned for 2018.
I’ve still got quite a few opinions on movies, and I’m going to continue sharing them, but a couple other people will be posting to Box Office Poison in the coming months, and if anyone else would be interested, the more the merrier. The content will be expanding beyond film and into a deeper analysis of parts of popular culture, LGBT culture, music, science fiction, comic books, and the horror genre and it’s many facets and avenues, to name a few things I’ve got queued up without giving too much away.
Thank you so much for continuing to read and for making it to the end of my first post of 2018! Please make sure to hit me up on the social media I’ve got linked on the main page, I’m most active on Twitter and Instagram and would love to hear from you. Coming up next week will be my first review of the year on Creature from the Black Lagoon. Better late than never, I suppose.
