I didn’t see as many in theaters as I would’ve liked to, but I got to see quite a few movies that were new to me by FINALLY watching movies I purchased ages ago, or by binging them with my roommates. So here is a list of movies that I saw in theaters this year, as well as my plans for Box Office Poison in 2018.
Movies Seen in Theaters:
- It: I am so glad I saw this with a large group of friends because this is not a movie you want to sit through alone the first time you watch it. Every performance is impeccable (my favorites being Jackson Robert Scott as Georgie, and Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise) and it was a beautifully shot, disorienting, well-written movie, and I can’t wait to see what Muschietti does with the next part.
- Wonder Woman: I loved this movie. I loved everything about it. It’s my favorite superhero movie ever. I felt like there were a couple parts where the story started to slow down a bit too much, but for the most part, this was an excellent movie and it did my favorite comic book character justice. The score was particularly good, and I really hope that Rupert Gregson-Williams gets some recognition for it. I hope we get to see her take on one of her more interesting comic villains in the next WW movie (like Circe or Cheetah).
(Also more Amazons please thank you)
- Blade Runner 2049: This was the most beautiful movie I’ve seen in a very long time. If I’m being completely honest, I didn’t really enjoy the original Blade Runner and was not originally planning to see this one. The original is a gorgeous film, but the pacing was a bit too slow for me, and the story dragged. As for 2049, I loved everything. Every performance was well thought out and executed perfectly, the music was absolutely beautiful, the cinematography was absolutely phenomenal, I could not look away from this movie. I think this is the best movie I saw this year.
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi: This movie has had very polarizing reviews. I went and saw it with two of my roommates, and my Hella Books co-host Ali, and out of the four of us, three of us liked it, and one of us did not. I thought it was witty, and a well thought out story, and it did take this new trilogy on a path I wasn’t expecting. It was gorgeous, of course, but not my favorite Star Wars film. To be fair, Force Awakens and Rogue One are hard acts to follow. Last Jedi was not great comparatively speaking.
So those are the movies I saw in theaters this year! I’m sure I’m missing at least one, but I wasn’t getting myself to the theater as often as I would have liked. Now, on to 2018 and the plans I have for Box Office Poison:
I haven’t spent as much time utilizing this platform as I would have liked to, and I’m going to make some changes in the next year. Rather than just posting about movies, I would like to add music, books and other forms of media into the mix. I love movies, but I found myself exploring new genres of music that I would absolutely love to share with all of you, as well as quite a few books. There will be others posting on here as well, just to add even more variety. I hope that you all have a very good holiday and a happy new year. New posts will begin in January 2018. Thank you for reading.
In the meantime, if you want to keep up with anything that I’m doing creatively, the best way would either be Instagram or Tumblr.
